FOCUS YOUTH LEADERSHIP ST. LOUIS

 Moderator:  Ms. Abby Cole

Youth Leadership St. Louis (YLSL) is a high school leadership program involving urban, suburban, rural public, and non-public schools and the Girl Scout Council of Greater St. Louis. Founded in 1989, the program provides high school juniors with a firsthand opportunity to gain problem-solving skills and strategies, develop awareness of issues in our region, and learn how they can make a positive difference. The premiere youth leadership training curriculum in the region, YLSL is the area’s only established inter-district high school program that is non-competitive in nature. Each participant is expected to achieve the following objectives:

  • To understand regional strengths and challenges and how community resources support strengths and address challenges
  • To understand the impact of social systems: social services, political, economic, and criminal justice systems
  • To understand the value of racial, cultural, and social diversity
  • To learn small and large group facilitation skills in order to prepare for current and future leadership roles

Kennedy Catholic High School is proud to be one of the 30 high schools in Focus St. Louis’ YLSL, and only the third Catholic high school participating. Applications for the Leadership Team are available in February of sophomore year and the team is selected through an interview process with Focus St. Louis. Each year the team develops and implements a project to benefit Kennedy. Please contact Abby Cole, Director of Advancement, by email or at 636-227-5900 ext 114 for further information.
