The Torch is a student-driven news magazine that affords anyone with an interest in journalism the opportunity to see his or her work in print. Working with a faculty advisor, students determine the story content of each issue, gather, write, and edit the news, and design the publication. The Torch is published monthly throughout the school year.
Students who take part in this extracurricular activity enjoy a great opportunity to learn more about other students and faculty as well as gain a better understanding of the inner workings of their school. Students work as reporters, photographers, artists, page editors as well as editors-in-chief, managing editors, and business editors. Reporting and writing take several hours of the student's own time each issue, and editor positions require several after school sessions per issue.
Students apply for particular posts on the Torch each year based on their experience. Student editors-in-chief, in consultation with the faculty advisor, assign the student positions.
